Focus on Fitness – Bottoms (the article of clothing, of course)

There is nothing worse then trying to workout and being uncomfortable.  Finding the right kind of pants or shorts to wear while working out is an essential part of creating a successful workout.  If you are going to workout, you want to find bottoms that offer comfort, support, and flexibility.  You can find many workout bottoms that have lycra added to aid in flexibility for all exercises, including the stretchy ones like yoga.  If you are doing any outdoor activity you will want to have fabrics that can withstand different elements.  If it is cold you will need to look into items that can be layered.

With all the boring “fact” stuff stated, let’s be frank – a woman wants pants that are flattering and thinning.  There are winners out there.  You have to look, try on everything and be patient.   You want to look for a broad waist band that will help eliminate the dreaded muffin top, with a slight curve to the leg that will put your curves in place.  Seams also play a role, seams that are elsewhere on the pant then the side offer a more flattering silhouette.  Also, keep it dark, neutral and simple.  As cute as those neon floral pants may be in your head (which by the way it’s ONLY in your head) they will be a disaster if you are trying to camouflage.  Oh and please, please do not wear pants that have words written on the derrière, those add pounds.  If I see another plus size woman wearing pants with juicy written on the butt, my head will explode!!

Go and check stores that don’t usually think of for work out clothes.  Old Navy offers amazingly flattering yoga pants for under $20.  Which is one of my faves, because the have pants made for those under 5’4” or over 5’10” and then they have plus size too.  You can, also,  look at Department stores, big box stores, and the over stockers, such as Marshalls and Ross.

Most of all, find things you feel comfortable and confident in, and go out and take on the world one crunch at a time!

Until next time!!
